Night was falling fast as it still did this time of the season, when the days had not quite lengthened back to their pre-winter glory. The last of the afternoon patrols were coming back in, either laden down with prey or bristling over some tension or other at the border. Among the former was a thick-furred she-cat with green eyes, who was brushing closer to a handsome young tom than was strictly decent. Before he could retaliate (if he could, the poor dear's eyes were wide with surprise), she simply pushed past him to drop her worthy offering of a sparrow and mouse on the fresh-kill pile. The prey was returning to the forest after a long season of snow, and ThunderClan would not go hungry tonight. But its fearless leader, with his never-ending list of worries on his mind, just might. She stood over the fresh-kill pile for a moment, considering, before swooping down to pluck up a few of the juiciest pieces.
She'd go bearing gifts, and then wait until he was eating to dig into him. A favorite pastime.
Birchsong stepped lightly over the budding fronds that lined the clearing, headed doggedly towards Falconstar's den. The old badger wound in her shoulder flared with each step, something that always happened during these rainy months, but she ignored it for now. That was something she'd save for playing up later, maybe with Wolfshadow or Blizzardclaw around...or both. But that was fun for a later time. For now, she had her brother to focus on. Peering into his den, she gave a courtesy call of greeting that was muffled slightly by the squirrel and vole she had crammed between her teeth. She dropped their dinner on the sandy floor as she stepped inside without waiting for his invitation. "I've brought food, brother, so tear yourself out of whatever you're scheming to come share it with me." Her words were friendly, but her tone left no room for argument. He would either come take his share or have to sit and watch her stuff herself stupid.
